One of the best things about sewing and creating is all of the great tools that help you! This is one I particularly love....the Button Shank Remover.
I originally found it by accident, but it was one of those things I always needed and didn't know it even existed! It's ideal for so many projects, and I use it all the time. It's perfect when you want the embellishment of a decorative button and a button hole isn't necessary. And, with a half off coupon from JoAnn's it's less than $4, so you really can't beat it.
Here are some of the types of projects I regularly use the Button Shank Remover for...
Dress up accessories like the Comfy Pirate Eye-Patch (template & tutorial free here!)
It's also the GREATEST thing for being able to add button covered snaps to kid's clothing.
Then they can still easily dress themselves (and make it to the potty!) without loosing the fun of the buttons they had picked specially themselves! ;)
You will of course just want to make sure they are securely attached.
The possibilities are endless. Anywhere you want a decorative button without stitching or using a buttonhole. It's super simple to use too.
You just snip the shank off and voila! Smooth back button ready to use.
Apply a bit of hot glue wherever you want to place the button and your project is complete with your attractive and decorative buttons!

I've never seen one of these before. I'm adding it to my list of must-gets, though. Definitely useful. Thanks!
I'm your newest follower! Love your blogs...so impressed and inspired. I'm a retired homeschooling mom, so you struck a special chord with me! I'll be back later to scoot around more of your posts!
I LOVE the idea of covering snaps.:)
Thanks Shiloh! It really does open up a lot of fun possibilities! :)
These are new to me as well, what a great idea, and you have done so many fun things with them. THanks for showing off!

Cool! I have never heard of this. It looks like it works better than scissors! Haha! And I make bows for my girls all the time, and this would be perfect. Would it work on a metal shank?
Thanks for linking up at "This Week". And for posting about it. And for being generally awesome!
I never knew what a button shank was, but now I feel like I need one. :-) I am a new follower from Delicately Constructed Fridays. Vicky from Mess For Less
I have never seen one of these. I must investigate and see if they sell them over here. Thanks for sharing...
