Pattern Review - Lucy's Little Flower Dress from Create H.O.P.E. Designs

While sewing yesterday, I had to give that Lucy's Little Flower Dress and shirring one more try!
Guess What?
It was STILL easy to do!!! (nudge, nudge!) ;)

I've had this delightful stack of inspiration from Riley Blake sitting on my cutting table just waiting to be transformed into something lovely! It's the Hoo's In the Forest line by Doohikey Designs and it's one of my favorite collections EVER!!!

So I picked a couple of prints and well, here's Lucy #2!
This fabric and dress are perfect year round! As it is it can be worn as a sweet summer sundress. But for the cold months, I'll be layering it with a long sleeve T or turtleneck and tights or BabyLegs. The babe has already gotten lots of compliments when wearing the original Lucy Dress I made. Makes for one Proud Mama of course! :)

The Lucy's Little Flower Dress truly is a super simple and quick pattern to put together! It's sure to become a wardrobe staple around here. I did a few things different this time and thought I'd share in case they might be of interest to others sewing with this pattern. First thing different, my serger was in one of it's fabric chewing moods and refused to create my neat rolled edges for my sleeves and neckline. Since it had eaten some of the fabric, there wasn't enough to do the 1/4 inch hem the pattern suggests as an alternative, so here's what I did.
I used my other more friendly serger, serged the edges of the sleeve opening and neckline to make them smooth and neat, then ironed them in and stitched them down. It was easy and actually made a very neat finish even though it wasn't my original plan! ;)

I also used the regular straight stitch when shirring rather than the stretch/elastic stitch to see if it would offer a tighter gather, and it did. I had to sew a little more slowly so as not to break the elastic thread, but I think I like the more ruffly finished results it offered.

And how about this tag???
Isn't that so sweet!?!?! I got these from the Little Flower store, Assunta. LOVE that store and the babies it provides for!

So can you guess what babe will be wearing today?!
Gonna try to catch a pic of her in it, but these days she's coming across the camera as a blur! Busy girl! :)

Happy Sewing!
