Sewing Essential - Pattern Tracing Paper

One product I have grown to love and use regularly is Pattern Tracing Paper, also called Pattern Ease. It allows you to use all sizes of multi-size patterns, leaving the actual pattern completely uncut. I purchase it at my local JoAnn's. It's on the bolt in the same section as the interfacing and when it goes on sale....which is when I stock up....you can get it for just over $1 a yard. It's 46" wide and very durable. In my experience, it's held up very well for repeat and longtime use. Plus, I love the way the webbed texture of it kind of holds it in place on the fabric I'm cutting, keeping the pattern from sliding about. If you've never used Pattern Tracing Paper, I highly recommend getting a bit to give it a try. I'm hooked!
It's pretty straight forward, but here's an example of how I recently used it for those that would like to see.
Lay the pattern tracing paper out over your pattern smoothly and weight down.
Trace out whichever size(s) you'd like to make. You can write all of the pattern information right on the tracing for future reference. I'll even write personal notes about the pattern or even details about how I assembled it as well sometimes.
Cut out your pattern pieces just as you would if cutting straight from the pattern and your set! Without damaging any of the other sizes of the pattern so you can use it again and again!

Another option many people like to use is Freezer Paper. Craft Buds offers a great tutorial for that here.

Pattern Tracing Paper....another of those Sewing Essentials that just makes sewing more fun! If you'd like to see other Sewing Essentials I've shared, just search "sewing essentials" in the search tab on the right. Happy Sewing!

  5. I used medical table paper. It's much cheaper, pretty durable, and fairly transparent.

  7. I use a roll of kids' drawing paper from IKEA, but it's not as transparent as tracing paper. Another thing to investigate.
