October Monthly Project Announcement!!!

The beginning of a new project is such an exciting time!
Today I'm delighted to share with you that for our October Monthly Project we will be sewing to support the outreach efforts of Sew For Kids and providing handmade gifts for the babies and mamas of the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations in South Dakota.

Sew For Kids works diligently to provide a Shining Start for families living on the Reservations. They have implemented a variety of programs to meet some very specific needs, and this month we will be sewing specifically for the Diaper Bag and Breastfeeding programs. Read more about each here

The diaper bags are provided to new mother's at her 2 week postpartum visit. The diaper bag can include any of the following items:

Diaper Bag (or backpack of comparable size)
Changing Pad
Blankets/Quilts
Bibs
Sleep Sack
Towel & Washcloths
Scratch Mits, Sock, Booties, Caps
Onesies, Sleepers, Gowns
Baby Wash, Diaper Cream
Teething Rings, Rattles or other infant toys

Our friends over at CraftFoxes have generously provided patterns for us from the book "Generation T: Beyond Fashion" to make T-Shirt Baby Hats and T-Shirt Baby Mittens
(psssst....You'll also have a chance to win this fabulous book later this month!)

For the Breastfeeding Program, the following items can be handmade:
Nursing Pillow (or pillow cover)
Nursing Pads
Nursing Cover

You can find this month's project board on Pinterest here that I've created to include tutorials that will be helpful for our sewing this month. Please comment or email with others you may know of and I will gladly add them.

  1. I can't wait to get started!!!
FYI..... They do not want diaper bags that have any promotion for formula on them. They want to support and encourage the women to breast feed. Thanks. I had a whole box of diaper bags I wanted to donate, but they had Emphamil written all over the inside cover.
