Her first project!!! (on her own)

Go ahead and brace yourself for all that gushy proud mama stuff, cause I am busting at the seams with delight! My girl made her first independent sewing project! And if that wasn't enough, it is AMAZING!!!
Here, see for yourself...
G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S.

I always love when my children want to sew. Granted, it isn't always the right time and it does require some extra work and patience, it is something I'm always glad I paused to do when we are done and I get to see their faces....proud of their work. Priceless!
This skirt was started a month or so ago. She picked the pattern AND the fabrics. It's not too often I give wide-open access to my stash, but she was really into the idea and I wasn't about to hamper it! The pattern she chose was the Hippy Chick skirt by Pink Fig and she did the "Classic" version.
My mom tried to get me to sew when I wasn't quite ready and then she & I both assumed for quite some time that I simply wasn't interested. Funny huh? So when my girls show interest, I try to roll with it as best as I can. Well, as I said, this project began a little bit ago. But, being a learning experience as it was, when she reached the part to add the band, she realized how important it is to adhere to seam allowances when doing strip-work. :) She decided to put it aside for awhile, and I let her.

But....I wasn't about to let her give up! With some time passed, and a little nudging, we pulled it back out and she had it finished in no time and was absolutely delighted with the outcome!
So am I!

Hmmmm....she may be needing her own machine AND her own stash before long! ;)

For me, this is FAMILY sewing at it's best!!!

That is fantastic! Can she do an entry into the county fair? Grace does every year and it always goes to the state level, very rewarding. She did a great job picking out fabric! You need to post on Chelsea's wall, she would be so flattered!

Just like her talented mama! I am so impressed seeing her on the serger, I am too intimidated to even plug in the one that was handed down to me! She definitely has an eye for fabric choice :) absolutely gorgeous (to borrow your words!)

Gush away, I know I would be!! She did such a great job. The thought of a second person in my house stashing fabric scares the daylights out of me!

Super cute skirt! That is an ambitious project even for someone who has been sewing awhile. You guys deserve to be proud.

Congrats to you both: to you, Kristy, for passing on the skills and to your daughter for such a successful finish! She'll definitely be needing to start her own stash and then of course, she'll need somewhere to store it.

What a beautiful skirt! She really did a great job, Kristy. I second Shasta's idea about looking into entering the county fair. My Samantha loves knitting and has a collection of ribbons from ours. (Maybe I'll get her interested in sewing one of these days.) So few people support our county fairs anymore. It's a great way to get the younger crowd to encourage creativity in the community!

Yay!! How fun!!! And she did such a fantastic job!!! My daughter (who is 5) has been begging to sew. I let her sit on my lap and "sew" some of her outfits, she is so delighted. Your girl did a beautiful job!
