2015 - #SewToShare

Finally, I get to share my plans for 2015 with you!
I've been pondering what would be best for my Hopeful Threads outreach for months now. How can I use my love of sewing most efficiently to help those I'm given the opportunity to? Like each of you, I only have so many hours in the day and a variety of priorities to divide my time among.

One thing that has become more and more clear to me, are the growing needs I can sew for within my own community. In addition to the local opportunities, I also have connections to a couple of international organizations doing some incredible work for children and their families, that I love having the privilege to sew for any chance I get!

So....instead of monthly or quarterly projects, I'm going to be focusing on sewing a variety of items, on-going throughout the year, to better concentrate on filling the needs I already know exist. Here's a few ideas I have....

The FLUFF Project - This is my heart, my #1 charitable sewing priority, to continue to provide stuffed friends for children in foster care. I truly love doing this! Having delivered more than 1,000 stuffed friends to date, with your help, I would love nothing more than to double that number in the coming year and WELCOME your participation in anyway you'd choose!

Children's Hospital - I'm delighted to have made a personal contact within our local Children's Hospital, specifically in our NICU. When delivering donations this past year, she and I had the chance to talk more about the specific needs they have year round. One item that they never seem to have enough of are receiving blankets, so I intend to try and help regularly contribute to their supply. Additionally, I hope to be able to sew other gifts, like pillowcases, for the main hospital to distribute.

Teeny Tears Bereavement Diaper Gifts - I introduced this special organization to you all back in the summer when I first began sewing with them. Their tiny diaper gifts are such a special thing to sew and something I feel very privileged to contribute to.

These 2 donation items are the perfect way to give forward the "Binkeez Bits" fabric donations I receive from Binkeez For Comfort

Last but certainly NOT least,
Foster Care Compassion Closet - This is another that is near and dear to my heart! I am fortunate enough to be a part of a very active and caring foster care community. While our family is not currently fostering, it is very important to us to continually support those that are. One way we can do that is by regularly supporting and volunteering with our Compassion Closet. There are SOOO many things I have the opportunity to sew for this too! Tote bags, Hygiene Bags, Pillowcases, Loungewear, other clothing and MORE! This is a project that my whole family is able to help with as well, as we shop and fill many of the bags we deliver with practical and fun items for the children who receive them. This blog post details more of this outreach if interested.

International Donations - The itmes I sew most often for this are bibs, shorts and sundresses.

Additionally, I look forward to following along and participating in other opportunities that arise across the online sewing community.....there are always some great ones!

So, there you have it, my charitable sewing plans for 2015!
I'll of course be sharing a variety of sewing related posts here throughout the year, and hope to have you join and participate however you feel led!
Here's planning for a FABULOUS year!!!

This sounds really wonderful. You will find that your heart grows even more from all this especially when you visit the NICU.

I set my Fluff bare minimum goal for the year. 60 stuffies (that's a mere 5 a month). I'm aiming to far exceed that (I really would love to do 100, but I don't want to commit to that just yet).
